An Apprentice Electrician works under the direct supervision of a licensed electrician to learn the trade. This level involves on-the-job training and classroom instruction.
A Journeyman Electrician can work independently under the supervision of an electrical contractor. They will need to pass a Journeyman Electrician exam through a local municipality. This level can supervise on-site up to two apprentices.
A Lead Electrician can work independently under the supervision of an electrical contractor. They will need to qualify with the state as a Limited Classification or above. This level can supervise journeymen and apprentices based on their license classification.
A Master Electrician is qualified to supervise journeymen and apprentices, pull permits, design entire electrical systems, and take on the most complex projects. Master electricians must have significant experience as a journeyman and pass an exam for a State-issued electrical contractor license.
